HOOVER RESIDENCE

The Hoover Residence in Greenwood, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis, was a joy to work on. Adding to the outdoor living space was important for the homeowners, as was ensuring a safe space for children and small dogs. We extended the deck off of an existing screened porch and added safety gates and two staircases to access the yard and new patio. The new patio we installed is paved in Brussels Block with brown accent inner border, and large overhead trellis. Estate columns and seating walls were installed to handle the grade change from the higher elevation of the house to the lower level of the patio and sloping backyard. We did a bit of cut and fill earthwork to ease the transitions on this property.

In this landscape there is always something blooming. For the planting beds, we chose a combination of grasses, carpet rose, iris, daisy, daylily and pachysandra. Colorful mid-level shrubs and small trees add interest year-round with bright flowers and various leaf colors. We retained all of the existing trees and added complementary arborvitae to conceal utilities and increase privacy, especially in the play area, which was reclaimed from an old concrete pad on the property.
